Captain America: The Winter Soldier Movie Review

Wow. First word that comes to mind when I think about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Being a fan of Marvel films there's nothing that stops me from being at every single release when one hits the theater. I had been watching trailers for weeks and squirming with anticipation at the thought of how bad-ass this movie was going to be and let me tell you it did not disappoint in the slightest bit. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo this movie had something that many of the previous films did not have. We see the familiar faces of Chris Evan as Cap, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and some new faces like Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie as Falcon.

So where can I possibly start? Well we pick up with Steve Rogers still struggling to fit into the world of the 21st century. If you're not aware this takes place after the events of The Avengers but as this is a standalone Captain America film it focuses solely on him. At the foundation of Captain America's character is the will to always do what is right. As we see from the past two films he was in Captain America is a soldier and soldiers take orders on command. One of the biggest things Cap struggles with in this movie is standing up against things he once followed and believed in. With many parallels to real problems in our world today we can see that Captain America: The Winter Soldier  is really more than just a comic book movie.

Now I will be the first to say that I was not the biggest fan of Captain America: The First Avenger. I know it was an origin story but compared to the other Phase 1 Marvel films it was my least favorite. Now the exact opposite is true. Compared to Thor: The Dark World  and Iron Man 3 this movie takes Marvel to the next level. Although many of the cast member are reprising their roles as familiar characters they still all continue to do a great job. The chemistry between Chris Evans and the rest of the actors I mentioned above is really great. Relationships grow and develop throughout the film and only get me more excited for what Marvel has in store in the next few years.

Along with the amazingly strong plot I have to say this film has incredible action and fighting sequences. Cap's performance was incredible but The Winter Soldier and Batroc the Leaper played by GSP (Georges St Pierre, UFC former champion) were also incredible along with Black Widow, who is as sexy and funny as ever. Fan-boy opinion aside it is really hard to find big faults in this movie. It really is just so fun to watch for both casual fans and hardcore fans.

Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open for easter eggs that are scattered throughout the whole movie too! For the the die-hard fans some of them will be a real treat. I can easily say that Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been my favorite film of 2014 thus far. With Guardians of the Galaxy in the upcoming months I can't contain my excitement for the continuation of this amazing cinematic universe. I give this movie an easy 9 out of 10 and highly recommend it to everybody. Can't wait to see my second showing tonight! And don't forget to stick around for BOTH of the extra scenes at the end of the movie!
