Non-Stop Movie Review
I'm not hijacking this plane. I'm trying to save it!
-Bill Marks
Non-Stop is a suspenseful thriller starring Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Honestly I think this movie was a bit underrated in my opinion. Never really heard much about it after it's release but it was kick-ass. Classic Liam Neeson just being a bad-ass. He's still an amazing actor, but after seeing the Taken series, it's hard to put Liam Neeson in a role without wanting him to pull out a gun and start killing bad guys and having sweet one-liners. That being said, this movie was exactly that with a cup of anxiety. I hadn't had this feeling while watching a movie since Gravity and it was pretty awesome.
So we follow Bill Marks an alcoholic federal air marshal who is on board a flight from New York to London. He sits next to a very talkative woman named Jen Summers who later plays a key role in the story. So not too long after take-off Bill receives a text on his secure line that states unless 150 million dollars is wired to a specific account, someone on the plane would die every twenty minutes. These type of threats are taken very seriously and Bill immediately responds to the anonymous text. Bill attempts to communicate with the other air marshal on the flight but soon finds out that he is smuggling cocaine on the plane. They get into an altercation in the restroom and Bill is forced to kill him. This death occurs exactly twenty minutes after he received the text which is really strange.
Beginning to realize that something is really wrong on the plane Bill begins to work with the flight attendants in attempt to figure out who is the one texting him. Twenty minutes after the first death the captain suddenly drops dead and the co-pilot begins to panic. At this point the authorities back in the states have tracked the account number that the terrorist has requested and the account name is under Bill Marks. Once they threw in that plot twist I was really hooked. Whoever was behind all of this knew Bill Marks would be on the plane and also knew about his past, making him a good scapegoat. Bill starts to get rough with some of the passengers on the plane and fear begins to spread. Back on the ground Bill is being labeled a mad man and people on the plane start to get very restless.
This whole situation becomes chaotic being fueled by anger and fear. Honestly for the majority of the movie you're on your toes. You rack your brain trying to figure out who the mystery terrorist might be since the film does a great job of making you suspect just about everyone on the plane. Some people just look or act suspicious and all these possibilities race through your mind. It's just a nail-biter of a movie with pretty interesting plot twists and a very long exposition. Liam Neeson is awesome as usual and the supporting cast is good as well. It's a very secretive film that must be seen to enjoy the full experience. I enjoyed the climax and the ending but I could understand how some people could have wanted more. I think the human interest factor of being stuck on a plane with a potential terrorist is so scary and thrilling to watch and that's one of the main reasons why I enjoyed the film so much. I give Non-Stop a 7 out of 10.
