Prisoners Movie Review
Prisoners didn't get that much attention, which I think is a shame because it was a pretty awesome and twisted movie. Definitely the kind of movie that sticks with you long after you leave the theater or turn off your television and you and your friends discuss to try to fill in the blanks. Starring Hugh Jackman as Keller Dover and Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki and directed by Denis Villeneuve.
This story kicks off with Dover family and the Birch family gathered together for Thanksgiving dinner. The two daughters are allowed to go out and play but after some time passes they don't return. The families check both houses and the surrounding area before they really start to worry. Keller's son mentions that he saw a creepy RV parked in front of the house but thought nothing of it.
Even though I don't have kids, movies like this still make me feel strongly for the parents of missing kids. Honestly I'm so used to seeing Hugh Jackman play Wolverine that i wasn't expecting such a performance. Truly powerful, Hugh Jackman makes you feel every ounce of pain of a grieving parent. So a missing child report is immediately filed and this is where detective Loki comes in. He seems like a very good detective but there's something intriguing about his character that you can't identify right away.
Detective Loki soon gets a tip about a suspicious RV in the woods and when he heads to investigate he finds Alex Jones (Paul Dano). This is the kind of movie were you really can't say too much once it starts to pick up because there's a lot to give away.
So I'll leave you with this. Prisoners is a solid crime drama with lots of plot twists and some pretty disturbing scenes. It's very dark and tragic with a wonderful talented cast. I give Prisoners an 8 out of 10.
