3:10 to Yuma Movie Review

3:10 To Yuma is a Western starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe and was directed by James Mangold. I don't have very extensive knowledge or experience with westerns but I can tell you that you don't need any to enjoy this movie. Other than the two leading stars, the film is jam packed with familiar faces from Ben Foster to Logan Lerman to other stars that will have you racking your brain about where you've seen them before.

So this story follows Dan Evans (Bale) a poor crippled herder in debt, with a family he is struggling to take care of. He has about a week left until he is forced of his land due to the impending railroad expansion and he's desperate for any solution to his problems. Enter Ben Wade (Crowe) and his gang of crooks. He's infamous for holding up stagecoaches and making out with huge sums of money. While Evans and his two sons are driving their herd they stumble upon Wade in the midst of a robbery and are discovered. Wade lets them go and heads back to town with his gang.

Fast forward a bit and we have Dan Evans being one of the men charged to transport Wade to the 3:10 train to Yuma to be hung for his crimes. This is where the real substance of the movie comes to the forefront. The relationship that these men form is so intriguing despite their completely different circumstances and there's much more to them than initially presumed. Along with the strong supporting cast, Bale and Crowe gave great performances. The narrative was so interesting and the Western setting just felt so right. The actors really became their characters and brought to life the time period. I give 3:10 to Yuma an 8 out of 10.
